We are very excited to introduce you to a very special guest today. Ed Matthews is a licensed attorney and CPA and he'd like to share with you some tips today about estate and tax planning.

Estate and tax planning aren't just something that affect you when you are older. Estate planning and asset protection are important at various stages of your life.

Once you turn 18, you are an adult and with that comes certain responsibilities. You need to make sure your affairs are in order, before you head to school. It's a good idea to complete a health care directive, in case you are injured or unconscious so a family member can make decisions for you. Another smart thing to do is give someone a financial power of attorney, so that if something happens to you, they can step in and pay your bills for you.

When you start a family, it's important for you to have a will. More importantly than just the financial aspect of it all, a will specifies who you want to take care of your children, in case something happened to you and your spouse.

As you go through life, you will gain more assets and add to your will. Once you are in your later years, you can also decide how you want to be cared for. You can set up trusts for your children as well.

It's important to speak with a qualified professional for help with estate and tax planning. Ed is an attorney and a CPA, so he has the perfect level of knowledge to help you out a lot with your planning.
